Some of the BT vans I have driven.

I have been employed by BT for 27 years. My first van was a Commer 1 ton van. I have long since lost any pictures I had of it. The van was yellow as most of the really old green vans had been phased out or re-painted. It had red logos on the side which said Post Office Telecommunications and a crown. In those days the vans were official crown vehicles and had no road tax just a white exemption disc. On this page are pictures of my three previous vans and my current van. The  yellow one on the left was an Ital, based on the old Morris Marina. It was later painted grey but only on the outside when the new colour scheme was brought in.

The  next two are Ford Escorts. Yellow vans were replaced by grey vans and the piper logo was introduced. The escort vans had 1.7 litre. diesel engines. The one on the right was new in 1975.

Then came white vans with new red and blue piper signs on them. The one in this picture was new in November 2001. Winter weather made it look rather dirty in this picture. The white van had power steering which was a great improvement over the previous one. From 2003 the new Global sign appeared on vans as the piper was phased out. My van in this picture was changed to the global logo in Summer 2003. The Transit Connect was introduced late in 2003 but I did not drive one of these. It is a taller and shorter van than the Escort which is no longer made by Ford.

In February 2005 B.T. changed their fleet supplier to Vauxhall. Look for Corsa Combos and Vivaros (Ford Transit size).

I took delivery of this turbo diesel Corsa Combo EO55 YOY on 23th December 2005 and some time later had it fitted with a roof ladder rack.

From March of 2006 some vans will have a change of logo again as BT introduce the Openreach division. They will look after lines and the cable network only. The vans will still have a small globe logo but will have criss crossing lines down the entire side. These are to symbolise the network cables.

I am looking for pictures of old BT and Post Office Telecoms vehicles. You can e-mail me from the home page of this site.
